Brand Variations
Different manufacturers interpret EU and US sizing differently. Athletic brands, fashion brands, and formal footwear may use adjusted scales.
European (EU) shoe sizes are converted to United States (US) sizes using standardized conversion charts based on the ISO 9407 footwear sizing standard. Conversions differ between men's, women's, and children's footwear due to distinct sizing scales.
US Size:
—
M = Men's, W = Women's. For complete charts, see below.
The European sizing system uses the Paris point, where each size increment represents 6.67 millimeters (2/3 centimeter). This system was standardized in France and later adopted across Europe. The US system uses different scales for men's and women's footwear, with increments of approximately 8.46 millimeters (1/3 inch).
For men's shoes, EU sizes are typically 31-33 units higher than US sizes. For women's shoes, EU sizes are approximately 30-31 units higher. These conversions are approximations based on industry standards documented by the British Footwear Manufacturers Association and ISO guidelines.
Children's sizing follows similar principles but uses separate scales for toddlers, youth, and juniors. Conversions become less reliable for very small or very large sizes, as manufacturers may deviate from standard increments.
Different manufacturers interpret EU and US sizing differently. Athletic brands, fashion brands, and formal footwear may use adjusted scales.
EU sizing does not typically account for width, while US sizing includes width designations (narrow, medium, wide, extra wide).
Not all EU sizes have exact US half-size equivalents. Rounding may be necessary, and fit may vary accordingly.
Shoes manufactured in Europe may fit differently than shoes manufactured elsewhere, even with identical size markings.
These conversions are provided for reference only. Actual fit depends on foot shape, shoe design, and brand-specific sizing practices. Trying footwear in person or consulting manufacturer size guides is recommended.

EU sizes are converted to US sizes by subtracting approximately 31-33 for men and 30-31 for women. The exact conversion depends on gender and manufacturer standards. EU sizing uses the Paris point system where each size equals approximately 6.67mm.
EU size 42 is the same numerical value for both genders, but converts to different US sizes. For men, EU 42 is approximately US 9-9.5. For women, EU 42 is approximately US 10.5-11. EU sizing is nominally unisex but manufacturers often adjust for gender.
Conversions are based on ISO 9407 standards and industry charts, but exact fit varies by brand. Different manufacturers may interpret sizes differently. Measurement-based sizing using foot length in centimeters provides more reliable results than conversion alone.
US sizing traditionally includes half sizes to provide finer fit adjustments. EU sizing uses whole numbers based on the Paris point system, though some manufacturers produce half sizes. When converting, rounding to the nearest half size may be necessary.
Standard conversion provides the closest equivalent size. If between sizes, sizing up is generally recommended for comfort, especially for closed-toe shoes. However, individual foot shape and shoe design influence fit more than conversion alone.
This calculator provides size conversions based on widely accepted industry standards and the ISO 9407 footwear sizing standard. Conversions are approximations and do not guarantee accurate fit.
Actual shoe fit depends on multiple factors including foot shape, shoe width, brand-specific sizing practices, and manufacturing variations. This tool does not replace professional fitting or trying footwear in person.
No warranty or guarantee is provided regarding conversion accuracy. Users are encouraged to consult brand-specific size charts and try footwear when possible. See the full disclaimer page for additional information.
